Let the Rainbow Shine

Can you remember, remember my name?”). Troviamo poi degli altri arrangiamenti di Curiano, come la canzone popolare tedesca Oh, wie ist das schön, e i brani inediti Mambo spielplatz e Mission a Go Go, che faranno parte di un progetto futuro dell’artista.

Ho in mente diversi nomi: “Bob Nouveau and the Machinations”, “The Adventures of Your Favorite Nobody”, o semplicemente “Your Favorite Nobody” (un altro titolo provvisorio era “The Machinations of Mr. Bob”, nda).

Mi sa che ero io quello a fare più battute a Ritchie riguardo all’epopea della Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Sorprese in scaletta?

Ovviamente, ci piacerebbe avere i Rainbow in Italia.

È un mistero su possibili altri show.

Grazie per il tuo tempo, Bob. Saluta pure a parole tue i fan italiani.

Ciao… dal “Vostro Nessuno Preferito” (Your Favorite Nobody).

This Q&A with Rainbow’s bassist Bob Curiano (Bob Nouveau) is about his recently posted online video messages and songs, which you can find above. We obviously also talk about Rainbow.

Please also check out Bob’s official Facebook Page. Enjoy!

Bob Curiano Interview (English Version)

Q: What did Ritchie say about your “thank you” song Let the Rainbow Shine? Has he listened to it?

A: I just started a Facebook page five days ago, so “Let The Rainbow Shine” is only on the internet five days! I know Ritchie does not spend time on the internet, so I don’t know if he heard it yet. The only thing I can say is that I did not get an angry phone call saying ‘Hey, what are you doing….. you’re fired!’. I don’t know, maybe that phone call is coming… haha (with fear)!

Anyway, I recorded this song just for fun, and to thank the fans, and especially Ritchie for everything. So far, I’m happy a lot of people like it! … and I made it available for download if they want it.

Q: What is that little guitar that you play in the video of the song?

A: That little guitar is a great reproduction of an old VOX guitar called the ‘Mando 12’… nice, hey? 12 strings and 1 octave higher.

Q: In your video message, we can also hear excerpts of two other new songs of yours: “Mission a Go Go”, and “Mambo Spielplatz”. As well as a rendition of the traditional “Oh Wie Ist Das Schon”, and a short arrangement of Deep Purple’s “Perfect Strangers”. Are you planning on releasing those as well? And how’s your theatrical production The Machinations of Mr. Bob coming along? Any developments?

A: ‘Oh Wie Ist Das Schon’ and ‘Perfect Strangers’ were adapted and rearranged just to make a fun message .. not for official release.

‘Mission a Go Go’, and ‘Mambo Spielplatz’ are songs that will be part of my new project (still with no definite name).

In my video I included two 1 minute ‘commercials’ for these songs. This is the direction I am going in. It involves not only music, but acting, and satire.

There will be more ‘commercials’ coming when I come back from the ‘Rainbow’ tour. As it develops I will know more about whether it is best as a theatrical production, or even a cable TV production.

Who knows… all I can say is I’m having fun doing it. I don’t know what to call it. I can tell you that so far, many people think it’s funny, and that’s what I want to hear.

Many different names go through my head; ‘Bob Nouveau and the Machinations’, … ”The Adventures of Your Favorite Nobody’.. or just’ Your Favorite Nobody’… what do you think? Here is the link to the video with the ‘commercials’ for ‘Mambo spielplatz’ and ‘Mission a Go Go’: on Vimeo.

An album with the new Rainbow? I’d love to. All we need is Ritchie to say Let’s Go!

Q: You have some great skills in putting together catchy hooks, harmonies and melodies. You are also a great singer and multi-instrumentalist. And you have recorded and played with Ritchie before (in Blackmore’s Night). What’s stopping you guys from entering the studio together and do a new Rainbow record with the new lineup?

A: I’d love to go into the studio with this ‘Rainbow’. All we need is Ritchie to say ‘Let’s Go!’

Q: Please share one Rock and Roll Hall of Fame joke Ritchie has cracked in the last few weeks. There might have been many.

A: I think I was the one cracking more jokes to Ritchie about the ‘drama’ that was going on with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Surprises in the set list? Well, let it be a… surprise!

Q: How are the Rainbow rehearsals going? Can you tell us how many songs have you been trying out, and should fans expect some surprises from the Rainbow and Deep Purple catalogue? Can you give us some hints on what songs might be played live?

A: It would be great to have some surprises in the song list…. so, let it be a surprise!… haha

Q: Ronnie Romero is a very powerful and versatile singer. He is also the youngest guy in the band. How do you think he will do singing the parts of Dio, Bonnet, Turner and possibly Doogie White, Gillan, Coverdale and Hughes?

A: Why do you think Ritchie picked Ronnie for the job? I think he will hit a big ‘home run!’… like we say in American Baseball.

It’s too bad Jimmy Bain passed away. Many of us are shaking our heads about how many of our ‘guys’ are leaving us

Q: Recently, 70s Rainbow bass player Jimmy Bain passed away. Did you know him, how do you feel about that, and how did the new band react to the news?

A: I did not know Jimmy Bain… it’s too bad what happened. Many of us are shaking our heads about how many of our ‘guys’ are leaving us.

Q: How do you handle the pressure of going on stage as Rainbow after a 20 year hiatus?

A: I think we all feel a little pressure because of all the expectations people have. For me, the pressure makes you work harder and try to do better!

Q: Can you give us a little insight on the live equipment you are going to use on stage?

A: Equipment?… I really don’t know exactly, but I think the days of giant equipment and big amplifiers is over.

Q: There’s going to be a good chunk of Italian fans at the shows in Germany and the UK. But obviously we would love to welcome Rainbow back to Italy. Any plans on touring again later in the year? Or perhaps in Summer 2017 for the festival season?

A: It’s a mystery about more shows.

Q: Thank you for your time, Bob. Please feel free to say ciao to the Italian fan base. In your own words.

A: To my Italian friends; Now that I’m getting older, I want to be on Italian television like the old man with all the beautiful young girls around me…. just like all those other old Italian guys!

Ciao… from “Your Favorite Nobody”.
