In July of 1993 rock god Ian Gillan agreed to an interview with Claire Sturgess for Radio 1. In his typical entertaining style, Gillan tells us about his year with Black Sabbath and how they inspired much of the film Spinal Tap. He also reveals how he took to the rock 'n roll lifestyle and his legendary, long-running feud with Deep Purple band mate Ritchie Blackmore.

Deep Purple Reunion 1984 by Clif Cooky Crawford - Ex Ritchie Tech
Once it was planned that we would start rehearsals, it was decided that this would all be done in America.
Ritchie and Roger were based out of the New York Metro Area. Thames Talent, who were going to manage the band (Bruce Payne) along with the production crew (Raymond d'Addario, myself, and Charlie Lewis) from Rainbow were handling the equipment and Colin Hart, the band tour manager, was to take care of the individual needs of each member.
Ian Gillan had his own manager in Phil Banfield who co-managed with Bruce Payne
.... once it was decided we would head to Stowe - Vermont.
Colin Hart found us the right place by working with local real estate agents. The equipment used for the first rehearsals was mostly Rainbow's gear including Ritchie's Hammond Organ and other keyboards and cabinets until Jon Lord could get his gear to America. His Hammond Organ and Leslie cabinets were in a state of disrepair .... Raymond brought Dawk Sound (who worked on Ritchie's gear) introducing him to Jon Lord to update and repair his gear to its highest peak performance. Jon had all kinds of modifications done on his hammond years ago, but couldn't keep up with the repairs needed, so his equipment needed alot of work which was done by dawk at this time. Also as Jon now had some money he went about purchasing new stuff, most of which was given to him free anyway. As all the equipment arrived so did the band and we set up at a place called horizons which was a large ski house on the side of part of a mountain over looking Stowe. We used the basement to jam and it came together pretty quickly as they just started playing like they were never apart.
Ritchie had lots of ideas and i remember Roger saying how they were now going to start playing and making a very heavy album. They were all on the same page there ... Ritchie and Jon Lord played a lot of classical sounding things by themselves and were very much in tune with each other. Roger and Ian Paice would jump in and off they'd go.
There was nothing but smiles all around as everyone knew this was going to be big! We even had some locals sneeking around the property having heard thru town that Deep Purple were here. It was a very special time as most of the locals soon heard rumours about us being in town and were soon joining us in games of soccer and drinking with us at the pubs. Ritchie wanted everyone in good physical condition and decided we would all play soccer everyday before the music started. This started all right but some of the guys didn't like having to compete with each other and it was soon decided that we would play the band vs the crew. Of course, Ritchie being very competitive would recruit the local ringers to play on the bands side. Me, Colin, Charlie, Raymond and the local cripples would still kick their ass almost everyday. Richard Hughes who owned the pub at stowe was a player for the crew who wore a kneebrace and was often seen laying screaming in pain as his brace would dislocate his knee!!
When we were recording the album months later, Ian Gillan called me into the mobile studio where he was listening in to his finished vocals on "Hungry Daze". He wanted me to hear his line .... "the crew have lost again, they're beaten men ...." in reference to our games. This was his way of breaking my chops a little as i was his nemesis on the field ....as the songs started to develop they soon decided they would get the Mobile Recording Truck and Nick Blagona once again to help Roger produce the album.
Some of the earlier songs were put on a back-burner like "The Unwritten Law" which Ritchie had been experimenting with for a long time. This was finally recorded for "The House of Blue Light", but this was originally done in a completely different way and was changed many times like adding sequencers to it. I myself liked it in its original form and didn't like the sequencers or the finished song for it was originally a very heavy tune. Others like "Under The Gun" were done pretty quickly and stayed heavy which i loved.
...the whole time we were rehearsing we never heard Ian Gillan sing! We didn't even know if he could, and there was some doubt about this in the band. He would sit and listen and be forming the words in his mind about how the songs were going to go, but we didn't know this ... but when we did start recording he just turned it on and blew everyone away.
There was much relief from everyone when he started to sing and it turned out excellent
...there is still plenty to talk about in concern to the making of this reunion album and tour......
The rehearsals for" Perfect Strangers" went so well they decided to take a few weeks break before starting the recording process, with Ian Gillan, Jon Lord and Ian Paice all flying back to England. Ritchie, who lived on Long Island and Roger Glover who lived in Greenwich (Conneticut) drove back or flew from Burlington (Vermont) to New York.
Ian Gillan used to like to fly British Air's Concorde and often was seen halfway thru a flight sitting on Ozzy Osbourne's lap telling Ozzy he was just going to Stowe for a pint! They got pretty pissed together and we heard many a concorde story from Ian.
Once back in Stowe, after the break we moved many a cabinet around the house using different bedrooms and hallways for different sounds. Gillan had a vocal booth in a small room in the basement and was often seen with a local lass in strange positions while he did vocal overdubs. Another funny thing: Ian Gillan loved to do when out in a restaurant was exchange clothes with the waitress!! The funny thing was, he almost always found someone!!!LOL!! He was turning out to be a whole lot of fun to be around and the comraderie and friendship between everyone was increasing daily
...as i said before around 12-1 pm when everyone was up and had breakfast we would play soccer till 2-3pm or later sometimes. Then it was in the shower and back in recording mode.
They would usually record for a few hours and then break for dinner which could be either quick or a long drink fueled banquet!!! Once back to recording they would play for quite a long time and i believe they did some of there best stuff at this time when everyone was loose ... as you can see in the Perfect Strangers video everyone was pretty close and smiling thruout. This was shot in Stowe Vermont and also at Ian Paice's house near Henley (England). The balloon shots were from Stowe along with the basement scenes and pub shots. The beginning shots show a long driveway and a Porshe driving up to Ian Paice's home where he has kennels for his rottweilers and a stable for his horses. You also see his pool without water in it
... this video was done as a documentary because they did not want to do a video per se. They thought of themselves as musicians not video artists like they have today! MTV was promoting their reunion in their news and didn't want to hear they weren't going to shoot a video!!
.... before the reunion tour was to start the band needed to take some time in going over the old songs. They had to re-listen to some old stuff they hadn't heard in a long time and pick thru a huge catalog to find the songs they wanted to present live.
We met up in West Hollywood and rehearsed in a sound stage on a movie lot.
From there we flew to Sydney (Austrailia) - 18 hours !

Sara' vero?
„Ch?tnie zagra?bym dwa, trzy koncerty z Deep Purple” – rozmowa z Blackmore’s Night w Teraz Rocku
Ju? tylko nieca?y miesi?c pozosta? do jedynego polskiego koncertu Blackmore’s Night. Zespó?, na czele którego stoj? Ritchie Blackmore (ex-Deep Purple i Rainbow) i jego ?ona Candice Night wyst?pi w Domu Muzyki i Ta?ca w Zabrzu ju? 28 sierpnia. Formacja od lat tworzy muzyk? inspirowan? renesansowym folk rockiem. Na swoim koncie maj? osiem albumów studyjnych z czego ostatni zatytu?owany „Dancer & the Moon” zosta? wydany w czerwcu 2013 roku. Sierpniowy koncert odb?dzie si? w ramach europejskiego tournée ‘Summer Tour 2014' i b?dzie czwartym a pierwszym od sze?ciu lat koncertem formacji w Polsce.
Lubi? stare miasta o bogatej historii. I kiedy wspominam Polsk?, my?l? raczej o Krakowie ni? o Warszawie. Warszawa wyda?a mi si? troch? nijaka. Candice: Jak wiesz moja rodzina wywodzi si? z Polski, z okolic Bia?egostoku. Czuj? si? wi?c tak, jakby w moich ?y?ach p?yn??a polska krew. I lubi? wraca? do Polski. (Nast?pne zdanie Candice wypowiada czyst? polszczyzn?). Dobrze by? znowu w domu…”
Podczas wywiadu nie zabrak?o pyta? o ostatni? p?yt? zespo?u „Dancer And The Moon” ale tak?e o mo?liwo?? ponownego zagrania z Deep Purple. Odpowied? Blackmore’a powinna sprawi? wielk? rado?? wszystkim fanom tego legendarnego zespo?u: „Wiesz, jestem od jakiego? czasu w kontakcie z Ianem Gillanem i ustalili?my, ?e by? mo?e w którym? momencie zagram z Deep Purple dwa, trzy koncerty, aby sprawi? rado?? fanom, przywo?a? wspomnienia. Ch?tnie jednak zagra?bym dwa, trzy koncerty z Deep Purple. Dla fanów, z nostalgicznych powodów.”
Zapraszamy do lektury ca?o?ci wywiadu, który zosta? opublikowany w sierpniowym wydaniu miesi?cznika Teraz Rock.
Koncert Blackmore’s Night poprzedzi w Zabrzu wyst?p formacji Góthien.

ahahahahahahahahahahahahah
