Deep Purple a Conegliano 2001

What a Wonderful night it was…. At my third Deep Purple’s concert I’ve been amazed! The best one I’ve ever seen.

I was a little worried about the absence of Jon Lord, but in a couple of minutes Don Airey convinced me that he was the best replacement for Jon. Two hours of very good music, with a very fine Ian Gillan (his best live performance since I saw him for the first time), an incredible Steve Morse (strange uh?), Ian Paice rolling with one hand and a so fine Roger Glover.

These guys were enjoying themselves on stage smiling all around.

The set list:

  1. Woman From Tokyo
  2. Ted The Mechanic
  3. Mary Long
  4. Lazy
  5. No One Came
  6. Fools
  7. The Well Dressed Guitar
  8. Perfect Strangers
  9. When A Blind Man Cries
  10. Steve Morse’s “Teach yourself rock history in 6 minutes”
  11. Smoke On The Water
  12. Speed King

Encores:

  1. Black Night
  2. Hush
  3. Highway Star

Funny the joke about the Smoke on The Water intro, in which Steve started 5 or 6 Rock hits before the famous riff. Very involving the classical tablatures played by Don, perfectly mixed with the other stuff.

Definitely not my last DP concert. Bye.
