Non è stata una svista o un errore: Nick Simper è davvero l’unico componente delle prime tre formazioni dei Deep Purple (1968-1975) ad essere stato escluso dall’introduzione alla Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Lo ha confermato il bassista stesso in un’intervista a Classic Rock, in cui comunica anche di non essere troppo infastidito da questa esclusione.

The first I knew about the Hall Of Fame induction was when I read about it and fans were complaining that I wasn’t being inducted.
Maybe I am being naive, but I always thought that if a band gets into the Hall Of Fame then all members, past and present, are part of it. Obviously not.
Yes, it is a little strange that I am only only one from Marks I, II and III being left out, but I shan’t lose any sleep over this. It’s not as if I need to be given this award to know what we did in Deep Purple made an impact. And I’m sure it wasn’t a decision that came from the band.
I was in regular contact with Jon Lord before he died, and Ian Paice is always sending his best wishes through mutual friends like Bernie Marsden. And I have also toured with Don Airey, with whom I get on well.
Simper si dice sorpreso che la Rock and Roll Hall of Fame non abbia optato per la scelta di includere tutti i componenti dei Deep Purple, passati e presenti. Aggiunge anche che sia strano il fatto che lui sia l’unico componente delle prime tre formazioni ad essere stato escluso dalla riconoscenza. È comunque sicuro che la decisione non abbia nulla a che fare con la band, con la quale ha dei buoni rapporti: era in contatto regolare con Jon Lord fino alla sua scomparsa, comunica con Ian Paice, ed è anche andato in tour con Don Airey.
Rimane ora da vedere se Rod Evans, il cantante originale dei Deep Purple scomparso dai palcoscenici dopo il 1980, si presenterà alla cerimonia. Chissà se qualcuno non riesca a rintracciarlo nel prossimo mese.
