"An impressive roster of players have signed on to pay tribute to Tommy Bolin called Great Gypsy Soul. Produced by Greg Hampton and Warren Haynes, it’s a project that brings together major players who actually perform alongside Tommy Bolin’s playing and vocals from the recording outtakes to his solo debut album, Teaser. Peter Frampton, Warren Haynes (a key supporter of the project), Nels Cline, Steve Lukather, Steve Morse, Brad Whitford, Joe Bonamassa, John Scofield, Derek Trucks, Glenn Hughes and Myles Kennedy all contributed to the project.

Great Gypsy Soul will be released on 429 Records on March 27th in both a single CD format and double CD with bonus tracks. A series of promotional concerts are also in the works.

Says Warren Haynes:

Many of the guests added after the fact have a close personal connection to Tommy - all share in acknowledging his place in rock history. Watching (and hearing) it all come to fruition some 35 years later was a journey of its own - well worth the travel.

qui potete ascoltare l'album per intero (come facciano poi a vendere questo prodotto visto che non si tratta di semplice pre-view mi sfugge...)

Le parti vocali (e strumentali) in alcuni casi sono state lasciate quelle originali...
Il tutto è molto interesante ma, ovviamente, inferiore alle versioni di Tommy...
consiglio di ascoltare Steve Morse e Jhon Scofield tra gli altri...

direi un ottimo lavoro!

ottimo lavoro, tutti gran musicisti a partire da quelli che suonarono originariamente con Tommy...si sente che venivano dal jazz-rock e che erano disumanamente bravi...
dei musicisti attuali: la versione di 'crazed fandango' è sicuramente migliore quella con Steve Morse per quanto la take di base è superiore quella con Derek Trucks (ma qui si tratta di scelte e non di perfomance). Mi sono piaciuti anche Steve Lukather e Warren Haynes ma si sente che Morse è una spanna sopra a tutti per quanto la versione stessa di Tommy presente in 'from the archives vol.I' non la batte nessuno...incredibile quante take facesse dello stesso brano sperimentando soluzioni diverse...Bolin era incredibile anche a livello di produzione (si capisce ascoltando l'album 'Teaser') oltre che negli arrangiamenti, nel songwriting e nelle parti vocali...
In sintesi: un lavoro consigliato se si possiede gli altri capisaldi di Tommy Bolin
